Final Required Blog Post: Reflecting on English 10 Class

This year I have learned how to analyze literature, how to lead a class, and how to write different sentence patterns. Until I became a sophomore, I have not analyzed a passage and write about it the way I had during my sophomore year. Because of that, it still takes me a long time to analyze a passage, but I do know what I have to do. I also learned how to lead a class for the entire 70~75 minutes. The discussion leader project was very new to me, yet I believe that it helped me a lot to understand the novels. Moreover, the project allowed me to improve on identifying themes of the book. During English 10, the part that made me have the hardest time was identifying themes. By doing the discussion leader project, I was able to find themes with less trouble. Lastly, I learned how to write different sentence patterns. In the past, I did not have a lot of different sentence patterns, but now I have more diversity; in other words, the sentence patterns we practiced every beginning of class, paid off.

So, this time, I played the opening of Kuroshitsuji. Kuroshitsuji is my favorite anime/manga right now <3

It made me buy mangas for the FIRST TIME!! The best part is that my mom does not know that I bought them!!! ㅇㅁㅇ I should tell her. Not today at least… It’s not like she said I can’t buy manga… I asked her last time and she said its okay to buy them. Its just that I asked her AFTER I bought them…

Dracula and Dracula’s Guest

Both Dracula and Dracula’s Guest are horror novels/stories and they both seem to have pathetic fallacy as their gothic element. They use the weather and the wolves howling to increase its purpose. Also, both of them have their stories’ ‘occur’ on the evil or fearful day. Moreover, the main characters, Jonathan Harker and the ‘I’ from Dracula’s Guest, go to a certain place, although the local people told them not to. Both of them end up regretting not listening to the locals, but manage to come back alive and have ‘happy’ endings.

However, Dracula has a slower pace in terms of the plot of the story, whereas the other one has a much faster pace. In addition, women are not depicted as men’s assistance in Dracula’s Guest because female characters do not even come out in the story, on the other hand, in Dracula, female characters are present as assistance. Because of this, I prefer Dracula’s Guest.

What Do I Like About Learning??

The opinion on learning depends on what it is. If I like what I am learning, then I like learning. If I hate what I am learning, I ABHOR it. I like science, excluding physics; its kind of in my blood, thanks to my parents who majored in biology and chemistry and dentistry. Its not in my sister’s blood tho; she likes social sciences and stuff like that; therefore, she is the opposite of me in many ways like personality. Going back to the subject, learning science subjects let me ‘deepen’ my knowledge in it, which is one reason why I like learning. Also, I get to study what I am interested in! I can stay up all night to study for AP bio but not for #$%^&*(). I don’t even notice the time passing when I am studying for chemistry but I look at the clock five times every second when I am studying for #$%^&*(). So, my opinion on learning really depends on the subject.

My Biggest Weakness

My biggest weakness is that I have serious mood-changes and that the quality of ‘my work’ differs according to it. When I am in a bad mood, I write as if I have never wrote an essay before and, when I am in a good mood, I would write an essay that is at least readable. SO I really have to overcome this weakness.

Okay… So I thought of two ways.

One, when I am feeling so bad, just take a nap for an hour or two. This will, for sure, make me feel much better. However, it is going to prevent me from sleeping at night…

Second, take a walk or focus on hobbies for half an hour. If I walk in the Olympic park, which is right in front of my house, I will be able to focus properly. Also, if I do what I really like to do for half an hour, I would be in a better mood.

Of course, I can just try to control myself… However, looking at the past few experiments.. That does not work so well… The best solution is me hitting the pillow, but it sometimes makes too much noise… So, I would have to rely on the two methods above.

Piano #1: Liz on Top of the World from Pride and Prejudice OST

This song is from my sky blue music file! The black one is the first one I made and the sky blue one is the second one. I am almost done with my second one!! YAY

ANYHOW, I played Liz on Top of the World, which is an OST from Pride and Prejudice, the movie that has Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Bennet. I loved the movie… Usually, the OST songs I play are the animes/movies that I really loved. Here is a movie of me playing the piece! I also uploaded the music piece so that people who want to play it can play it! The music piece is rare but it is quite easy to play, so I really think more people should play it

English 1st semester final

Last semester, we had to write a thesis paper and create a keynote (sth lyk powerpoint in Microsoft) presentation to defend it. My thesis is that Macbeth was a victim of Blind Ambition.

That video is basically my speech and my presentation.

I felt quite prepared for my presentation because I spent all of my sunday working on it and I hav ran thru the speech around six times in front of sister. I think I did a good job on finding appropriate quotes for my reasons because they did not contradict my points. However, I would have done a better job on my final if I was able to elaborate more on my points by differentiating the personality part and the acquired ambition part. So, I would have to explain about my reasons more next semester.
